Mark Halsey was the longest-serving full-time professional referee in the English game when he retired at the end of the 2012-13 season after a 20-year career that included a remarkable 14 years in the Premier League. An inspiring survivor of throat cancer, he grew up in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire but now lives with wife Michelle and daughter Lucy near Bolton, Lancashire.Added Time book cover

Since hanging up his whistle he is a refereeing pundit on TV and radio and has a weekly column in the sports pages of The Sun newspaper. His controversial biography Added Time – a no-holds barred account of what it is like to be the man in the middle – has been shortlisted for this year’s British Sports Book Awards.
