2019 festival: Event

Love, Interrupted book cover and spineBooks in the Belfry is proud to be hosting a special one-off event as a tribute to our much-loved co-founder Vikki Orvice, who died from cancer in February aged 56.

The former Blue Peter and Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas will be in conversation with Vikki’s husband Ian Ridley on Friday October 11th in St Leonard’s Church, Flamstead about his acclaimed and moving new book Love, Interrupted.

The book tells of the devastating loss of Simon’s wife Gemma almost two years ago -aged only 40 and just three days after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia – and how he has coped with his grief as well as bringing up their son Ethan, who was only eight when Gemma died.

The book was serialised in June this year by the Daily Mail.

In the Vikki Orvice Memorial Interview, Ian and Simon will discuss the book’s themes of love, loss, faith and family in what promises to be a remarkable evening, both touching and uplifting.

The £12 admission price includes a glass of wine or a soft drink and the church will be open from 7pm for a 7.30 start.

There will be an opportunity for questions from the floor and also a chance to buy Simon’s book – courtesy of our friends from Harpenden Books – which he will be available to sign.

Tickets can be purchased here.
